Local Commercial Real Estate Defies National Decline
That is why Coykendall, 55, opened Loving Light Yoga & Healing Center last January, amid the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression.
She says business could not be better.
“I moved here from Naples about three years ago,” she said. “I taught yoga there, but I also ran a hair salon with my husband. but when we moved here, I wanted to teach yoga full-time, because I saw that not a whole lot of people were offering yoga.”
Coykendall started providing free yoga classes — first on Englewood Beach, then at her home and various spots in Venice and Port Charlotte.
“There were some days we’d have 100 people at the beach,” she said.
“So I told my husband it’s time. I’m going to take a chance and open my own place.”
Her business is at 3579 South Access Road, along State Road 776.
“I opened the doors and we were packed,” Coykendall said.
Classes include an infused blend of yoga, Pilates and Qi Gong; Yoga Nidra, a guided meditation; Restorative Yoga, a therapeutic class to open mind and body; and a breathing exercise.
“We also offer services such as Reiki and energy alignment, facials, foot massage and ear candle therapy,” Coykendall said. “Even belly dancing.”
The belly dancing class is taught by Tami Morgan, also known as Amunet, who has developed her own style, which focuses on the art form, choreography and its benefits as exercise.
“My students are learning the moves of belly dance,” Morgan said. “But we’re combining those moves in the class so that they get a good workout as well.”
