I have a self built multilevel rabbit cage but can't seem to find something sufficient to use for easy to clean flooring. I'm trying to stay within the $10-$30 range because the rabbits have already destroyed one floor. the main level is about 6 sqf and the second is about 3/4ths the size of the first.

I currently have a thin wood floor with a thin washable yoga mat attached (no edges are showing so they didn't start pulling it up out of curiosity). the rabbit has taken an interest in pulling up the top layer of the yoga mat. he isn't eating it, just pulling it up. he is a 5lb dutch and is neutered and has plenty of toys, he has just taken to being destructive lately and I need something that is chew and dig proof.

tl;dr My rabbit messed up his cage floor and I need an affordable, cleanable alternative.

you can use newspapers with soy-based ink just in case he chews on the newspapers

coroplast it's like plastic cardboard. find it at places that make signs.
or get some peel and stick tiles from the home improvement store and stick them to some cardboard or wood.

Try Coroplast. Basically, it's plastic cardboard. People who make commercial signs will have it for you. it can be cut to what ever dimensions you want. Not completely indestructible if the bunny takes it in to his fuzzy head to destroy it, but it'll last longer than a yoga mat.

I can't remember what it's called, but there's a plastic finish for showers. it comes in sheets and you glue it over the existing walls. you get it at Home Depot. that should be pretty much indestructible and washable.

See if you can find linoleum remnants or consider tile.

Der har altid været noget vidunderligt unhipt over The Cult. Dette skriver jeg med største hjertelighed. I en kultur hvor de fleste musikblade minder mere om livsstilsmagasiner end om journalistiske platforme, er begreber som “modkultur” og “opposition” for længst blevet reduceret til poetiske vendinger, man udelukkende bruger for at pynte lidt på sit eget image som forbruger. Hverken den såkaldte undergrund eller “alternative” musikscene repræsenterer længere nogen som helst modsætning til forbrugerkulturen, det er derimod netop behovet for en indie-identitet, der driver tidens marked.

På vores breddegrader er der principielt kun én reel modkultur, den hedder Al-Qaeda, og vil man for alvor være hardcore, jamen, så er det frem med Osama Bin Laden-T-shirten … resten er basalt set blot mere af samme skuffe, dvs. yderligere selvpositionerende metervare-revolution sat på rockformel eller flere melankolske sange om fremmedgørelse og manglende nærvær skrevet af følsomme middelklasse-troubadourer.

Anyway, beklager at jeg lader mig rive med på den måde, men finesse ligger alligevel ikke rigtig til denne artikels to hovedemner, nemlig 1) rock’n'roll og 2) The Cult. Så lad os komme i gang: Regner man de allertidligste skygger af gruppens tilblivelse med, kan man med lidt god vilje kalde 2011 for gruppens 30-årsjubilæum. I 1981 dannede sangeren Ian Astbury bandet Southern Death Cult, der efterfølgende turnerede med navne som Bauhaus og Theatre of Hate.

I april 1983 stiftede Astbury og hans kommende rock’n'roll twin, guitaristen Billy Duffy, så Death Cult, der i januar 1984 forenklede navnet yderligere til The Cult i forbindelse med en optræden på det engelske tv-program The Tube. Inden da havde Duffy spillet i netop Theatre of Hate, men også i det kuriøse, kortlivede band The Nosebleeds, hvor sangeren – i den periode Duffy var medlem – var en vis Steven Morrissey. et af sidstnævntes bidrag til gruppen hed meget kendetegnende for dennes senere virke “(I Think) I’m Ready for the Electric Chair”.

Den gotiske vaudeville

I kølvandet på postpunk-grupper som ikoniske Joy Division og glam-inspirerede Bauhaus vrimlede det i de år frem med såkaldte goth-bands, mange af dem så horribelt intetsigende at man slet ikke forstår forbindelsen mellem navnene længere. Nu om stunder er historien blevet retoucheret pænt på plads, men lad os for øvelsens skyld lige tage eksemplet med Bauhaus (gruppen der om nogen er blevet synonym med genren), eftersom det nok står de færreste klart, i HVOR ekstrem grad f.eks. det toneangivende musikmagasin NME i sin tid hånede dem. Lad mig illustrere ved at citere bladets anmeldelse af Bauhaus’ single “The Passion of Lovers” fra sommeren 1981 i sin fulde udstrækning: “The desperation of losers.”

Der var rigtig mange om goth-budet dengang, og i mine øjne var The Cult blot endnu et symptom på en epidemi i hastig spredning, noget der skyllede horder af bands med sort, crepet hår og læderbukser op overalt. Grundet overfloden sprang jeg af samme grund over gruppens koncert i Musikcaféen i 1984; jeg havde allerede fået mere end nok på den konto via grupper som Gene loves Jezebel, Sex Gang Children og Alien Sex Fiend, og i forhold til de decideret genrefornyende bands inden for samme kategori – tænk som sammenligning på samtidige grupper som Virgin Prunes og Dead can Dance – så forekom The Cult mig i bund og grund endeløst ligegyldige. 

Af samme grund var jeg heller ikke videre imponeret over deres debut-lp Dreamtime i 1984. Ligegyldighederne fortsatte, nu som postpunk-karneval med Astbury som en Boy George-lignende papegøjefrontfigur, der prækede ligegyldig pseudo-mysticisme løseligt fordelt over en samling uinspirerede og monotont enslydende jamsession-baserede sangskitser (og til dem, der er fuldkommen uenig i dette synspunkt, lad det da være skrevet, at mine favoritkunstnere i årene inden da havde været navne som allerede nævnte Joy Division, Karlheinz Stockhausen, The Pop Group, Wire, György Ligeti, this Heat, The Fall, Igor Stravinskij, Einstürzende Neubauten og Throbbing Gristle, hvis det hjælper lidt på fordømmelsesfaktoren).

Anyway, der var plads til alle i bussen, og da The Cult i 1985 fik deres første hitliste-succes med singlen “She Sells Sanctuary”, var der da også tale om et fabelagtigt godt sammentømret, zeitgeist-perfektioneret op-på-bjerget-og-ud-på-dansegulvet-nummer. Jeg fik til og med set et glimt af videoen og måtte give mig for Ian Astburys fine fodarbejde – touché, den herre! Senere samme år fulgte albummet love så, men igen, gaaab, flere ensformige riffs og mere kvasi-okkult lyrik for intellektuelt underlegne teenagere.

Jeg skænkede faktisk ikke bandet en yderligere tanke, før jeg tilfældigvis så videoen til en af albummets andre singler, nummeret “Rain”, for “godmorgen mine blanke støvler!”, nu skete der ting og sager: Ikke nok med at Astbury pludselig lignede en transvestit-solkonge i en berliner-cabaret frem for det sædvanlige hippieindianer-look, men spol lige hastigt tilbage og dyrk de to Strawberry Switchblade-lignende sangerinder i baggrunden, der med Cleopatra-øjne og flagrende arme dannede et slags mediumistisk bindeled mellem hippie- og goth-kulturen. Det var pure Swinging London-style, både tacky og cheasy, men på en sær facon også très chic … goth, geek og vaudeville i ét. Gruppen var i korte træk blevet underholdende at se på.

Pelshuer og touperet hår

Jeg lod Cult være Cult og koncentrerede mig i samme periode om at kapere den flod af selvmord og stofrelaterede dødsfald, der begyndte at skylle ind over mig på den private front. Det var en meget lidt attråværdig periode set gennem den sjælelige lidelses optik. Jeg fik nok af nattelivets gennemsigtige skikkelser, midt-80′ernes skæbnealfabet af eyelinerdrenge, weekendpiger og veteranjunkier hvis kroniske søvnmangels dårligt lagte øjenskygge efterhånden syntes tatoveret hen over øjnene på dem.

So much for rock’n'roll, det var tid til at komme videre, så jeg meldte mig ud af klubben og burede mig det næste års tid inde blandt kundalini-yoga-praktiserende new age-drømmere og vegetarspøgelser for hvem tilværelsen belejligt nok ikke krævede andet af forståelsesmodulet at udbryde det magiske ord “karma”, hver gang nogen i deres omgangskreds løb ind i problemer. 

En forårsdag i 1987 var jeg hjemme hos Peter Sørensen, den senere stifter af booking-firmaet Beatbox. Han arbejdede på Virgin Records dengang og havde en stak nye selskabsudgivelser liggende fremme, bl.a. den dugfriske Cult-lp Electric. Han gik i gang med at fortælle om, hvordan den var produceret af en fyr ved navn Rick Rubin, som efter sigende også havde produceret run DMC og Aerosmith’s store “Walk this Way”-hit for nylig, men jeg koncentrerede mig slet ikke om, hvad han sad og sagde, jeg var dybt fascineret af den pelshue som Ian Astbury bar på pladens frontcover: What a cool, ungothic move!

Noget overrasket over min pludselige kovending mht. gruppen, spurgte min vært mig, om jeg havde lyst til at se promotion-videoen for bandets nye single “Love Removal Machine”. Ikke nok med pelshuen, her var også en titel efter mit hoved, så vhs-båndet røg i videomaskinen, og frem på tv-skærmens flimrende overflade piblede nu billederne af et par læderstøvler, der senere skulle vise sig at være den i forhold til albumcoveret pludselig stortouperede guitarist Billy Duffys.

Drevent vader han hen over et scenegulv til en synth-pastiche baseret på temaet fra Den gode, den onde og den grusomme. En dåseøl med et The Cult-logo kommer i vejen for ham, så den bliver beslutsomt sparket ad helvede til, hvorefter manden tænder for et bjerg af Marshall-forstærkere. En semi-puddelhundstrommeslager tæller for, og guitarriffet sætter ind.

Wow! Jeg tror aldrig, at jeg i mit dengang så unge liv havde set så mange rock-klichéer blive liret af på så kort tid – og på det tidspunkt var sangeren end ikke dukket op endnu … Det skulle der dog hurtigt blive rådet bod på, for snart kommer Ian Astbury slentrende ind på scenen, klædt i flæser og sorte lederhosen og med en hårpragt, der måtte gøre enhver midaldrende, måneplaget mand syg om hjertet.

Jeg havde i årene inden været optaget af den kontroversielle magiker Aleister Crowley, så da Astbury tilmed efterfølgende gav sig i kast med en fortælling om “a scarlet woman in a red room”, var der ikke længere nogen vej tilbage. Jeg gik fra mit hjemmebesøg hos den gode hr. Sørensen med Electric-pladen klistret under armen; han kunne råbe alt det, han ville – den plade, den var min!

Lydtempler og stenskulpturer

Resten af lp-materialet var desværre ikke videre mindeværdigt, men “Love Removal Machine” forblev et af mine favoritnumre den sommer. Ellers lyttede jeg mestendels til Popol Vuh og Ravi Shankar. I juli spillede The Cult på Roskilde Festival, hvor de efter sigende bandede og svor sig gennem et svedigt og snavset sæt, men festivaler har aldrig rigtig været min kop te, de er forfærdeligt uhygiejniske, så jeg holdt mig på sikker afstand.

Livet gik videre, og jeg glemte endnu en gang alt om Cult. Peter Sørensen holdt mig dog løbende orienteret om gruppens voksende succes, så da deres kommercielle højdepunkt, hard rock-albummet Sonic Temple, udkom i 1989, var jeg allerede vel briefet om pladeselskabets forventninger til den nye plade: Ifølge de interne memoer skulle albummet gerne blive The Cults svar på Deep Purple in Rock, hvad end man mente med det – efter alt at dømme et eller andet episk. Deep Purple?, come on, men Peter var vokset op med drengeværelset fuld af Purple-plader, så historien gentog sig, og denne gang tog jeg hjem med et eksemplar af Sonic Temple, vel at mærke uden at have hørt noget fra pladen.

Jeg noterede mig med interesse titlen på åbningsnummeret “Sun King”, men mistede den igen allerede 30 sekunder inde i sangen – det må have været omkring sætningen “hot damn, ooh, mercy ma’am
, what the hell are you doing to me?” Hmmm. Men The Cult blev kæmpestore og solgte platin og turnerede den ganske verden tynd, og alt var vel, som det skulle være, hvis man gerne ville være rockstjerne.

Herefter begyndte det stille og roligt at gå ned ad bakke for gruppen, både med inspirationen og salgstallene og det oprindelige publikums dedikation, som ikke var så forfærdelig vilde med, at bandet var begyndt at hænge ud med Aerosmith og Mötley Crue, og efter endnu et par album splittede de to våbenbrødre Astbury og Duffy da også op i 1995.

Lidt Nietzsche, lidt karaoke og en enkelt fodboldspiller

Men hvad stiller man op med sig selv, når man sidder der, hver for sig, og keder sig? Gendannelsen kom i 1999, hvor Cult indspillede det langt fra succesrige (om end noget undervurderede) album med den Nietzsche-inspirerede titel beyond Good and Evil. Pladen indeholdt bl.a. den glimrende single “Rise”, men lige lidt hjalp det, albummet solgte langt under forventningerne, og efter en katastrofal tur blev gruppen endnu en gang lagt på is.

Herfra begyndte tingene at udvikle sig i den mere groteske retning, eftersom den i forvejen Jim Morrison-lignende Astbury i 2002 blev sanger i et gendannet The Doors. I 2005 blev The Cult så atter samlet, og i 2007 udkom bandets seneste og foreløbig sidste studiealbum Born Into this.

Siden da har de turneret jævnligt og bl.a. genopført Love-albummet live i DR’s koncertsal, men relevansen af alle anstrengelserne er det vel så som så med. Tjekker man bandets videoer på YouTube, taler statistikken sit eget tydelige sprog, eftersom både “She Sells Sanctuary” og “Rain” hver er blevet set af halvanden million mennesker, hvorimod gruppens seneste single “Every Man and Woman Is A Star” blot er set af et par tusind.

En af de mere underholdende historier fra den senere periode er dog, da den tidligere Manchester United-fodboldstjerne David Beckham blev set vandre rundt i en T-shirt med The Cults Electric-logo på – for ikke nok med at han og Billy Duffy med årene ligner hinanden mere og mere, hvad værre er, så er Billy Duffy en svoren Manchester City-tilhænger! at selve T-shirten efter Duffys vurdering yderligere var en piratkopi af den oprindelige tour-T-shirt gjorde selvfølgelig heller ikke sagen bedre.

Sneakers med smilende dødningehoveder

Og her står jeg så – på Posten i Odense ­– og venter på, at The Cult skal gå på scenen. Jeg har ikke været her, siden stedet hed Rytmeposten og var et trælokale med plads til 200-300 mennesker, så derfor undrede det mig lidt, da jeg for nogle måneder siden så, at bandet skulle spille her. Nyheden fik mig ufrivilligt til at tænke på dengang, The Sweet spillede i Musikcaféen i København engang i 80′erne (for læsere uden viden om den rockhistoriske kridttid så var dette mange år efter gruppens storhedstid).

Jeg var ikke selv til stede ved begivenheden, men kan huske historierne om, hvordan sangeren Brian Connolly måtte sluge fem-seks yankee bars backstage, inden han gik på, for at oparbejde det nødvendige kick til at møde sit publikum. Der var også noget med en iltmaske. Ikke at jeg forventede, det ville stå lige så slemt til med The Cult, men man ved jo aldrig.

Posten er dog som sagt blevet et langt større sted, siden sidst jeg var her, der kan vel være omkring 800 mennesker, og der er pænt fyldt uden at være udsolgt. Aftenens publikum består mestendels af hard rock-elskende forty-plus’ere going on 50, vel sagtens 85% mænd. Der er rigtig mange store mennesker fordelt ud over salen – store som i tunge. Blandt de forhåndenværende kvinder er der ingen, der går i høje hæle, der er en enkelt knaldrødhåret pige, men stort set ingen goth-folks:

En fyr med hanekam iklædt en Fields of the Nephilim-trøje er faktisk det nærmeste, man kommer sidstnævnte segment, ellers er det hele gummisko og sneakers, hvoraf det mest interessante eksempel er et lærredssæt fuld af smilende dødningehoveder. Cute.

Bag mig står der et hold hårdt drikkende mænner, hvoraf en af dem konstant råber op. Hans stemme lyder, som om han i årevis har hældt afløbsrens i halsen hver morgen. Han synes, at det er alle tiders, da en af de andre kommer med en omgang shots til dem alle. Herfra følger en masse “oiii!” og almen hujen og noget om, at Motörhead snart skal spille i Danmark igen. Jeg vælger at trække op mod scenen for at finde mig et sikkert hjørne.

In the flesh

Klokken er blevet 21.30, og jeg føler mig allerede træt. En eller anden afart af noget indiansk chanting begynder at pible ud af højttalerne, og lyset bliver dæmpet. Folk jubler. Noget rører sig på scenen. Hvad i alverden?! oh my God, it’s a beer monster: Fuldskæg, solbriller, en bandana viklet om hovedet, bumber jacket, baggy knickers med lange strømper og gummisko. Er det virkelig ham? yes siree! Ian Astbury er blevet en beefy boy her på sine ældre dage.

Bandet lægger meget passende ud med en noget uengageret udgave af “Rain”, eftersom regnen har væltet ned over Fyn de sidste mange timer. Nummeret slutter, og mens Astbury spytter lidt på scenen, fortsætter de så med “Every Man and Woman Is A Star”. Lyden bliver lidt bedre i det tredje nummer “Electric Ocean”, men lige lidt hjælper det hele på den følelse, jeg står med.

Ovre bag Astbury på scenen står der et mindre arsenal af red bull-dåser og kildevandsflasker. Tja. Stærkere sager ville muligvis hjælpe lidt på tingene. Alting bliver liret temmelig glædesløst af, og selvom publikum virker okay engageret og nu ligefrem klapper lidt med på “Sweet Soul Sister”, så kan jeg ikke forestille mig at holde hele koncerten ud, hvis den fortsætter på denne her måde.

Business as usual

Det gør den desværre. et godt stykke endnu. “You got a house to pay off to?” spørger Ian Astbury sågar en fra publikum mellem numrene “White” og “Saints are Down”, så diffust forekommer det hele. Bandet spiller videre, der arbejdes for sagen, og alt emmer business as usual – og her taler vi timebetaling, ikke akkord. Guitaristen Billy Duffy er holdets sjakbajs, han giver folk et par poses uden at give for meget, men virker grundlæggende, som om han står og tænker på, hvor mange dage det nu er, der er til, at Premier League starter igen.

Ikke engang det energiske nummer “Rise” gør det store, hvilket så nok også siger noget om, hvilke Cult-plader, det er, publikum har stående derhjemme. Var det ikke fordi, at min ledsager er svoren Cult-fan, ville jeg for længst være taget af sted. Ian Astbury undskylder det manglende sceneshow med, at han er blevet mere moden: “I don’t run around like a child anymore”. no, we can see the Ian, men måske ville lidt af den slags energispild i det mindste hjælpe lidt på problemet med overvægten.

Mens jeg står og gaber, kommer jeg i tanke om en udtalelse, sangeren kom med tilbage i 1999, da The Cult netop var blevet gendannet og stod foran en større comeback-tour: “This tour is for people who need meat in their sandwich,” sagde han. Yeah right. Som pastrami would be nice then, muchos gracias … indtil videre har det ikke været meget andet end fedt og spæk, vi har fået proppet i brødet.

Med den gryntende orne på gamle eventyr

Men så blev det den tid på aftenen, hvor salamien langt om længe kom på bordet. Måske var lyden også bare bedre det sted i salen, jeg på det tidspunkt var endt i min ørkenvandring, i hvert fald fik “Li’l Devil” fra Electric-pladen tingene til at minde lidt mere om det, jeg forbinder med Cults rock’n'roll-maskine.

Nu gik det over stok og sten med den gryntende orne på gamle eventyr, “Dirty Little Rockstar” og “Wild Flower”, men så var tiden kommet til storhittet “She Sells Sanctuary”, og leveret blev det da også, men noget sjusket og uden den mindste suspense i den ellers klassiske guitaropbygning. Til gengæld KUNNE bandet bare ikke ødelægge “Love Removal Machine”, mit all-time fave track med bacillen fra det mørke Nordengland. Pheew, syv Hail Mary’s og så var der luftguitarer over hele linjen ude blandt publikum.

Principielt var “Fire Woman” vel et ekstranummer, men klapsalverne forekom åbenbart ikke kun mig, men også Astbury en tand tamme. Hans kommentar var i al fald meget sigende: “I don’t know how you make love to your women, but it can’t be very exciting”. Helt galt gik det så herefter, hvor gruppen sluttede af med at spille det gamle Doors-nummer “Break on Through (To The Other Side)”.

Så var han ligesom selv ude om det: Astbury mindede mig i al fald påfaldende meget om en af de sidste sekvenser i Oliver Stones store spillefilm om samme gruppe, en scene hvor en fed, mat og tappet Jim Morrison er blevet inviteret hjem til børnefødselsdag hos en af de andre bandmedlemmer. Her sidder han så og drikker øl med en høvdingefjerbeklædning på hovedet og ser fuldkommen fortabt ud.

Venskabeligt undskyldende forlod bandet herefter scenen, mens Duffy på falderebet fik introduceret bandmedlemmerne – alt sammen rodet, dårligt timet og ekstremt un-rock’n'rollet. Reserveguitaristen kylede dernæst en hel spand plektre ud over publikum, ligesom trommeslageren også havde en masse stikker, han gerne ville af med.

Dernæst kom Astbury så tilbage for igen at tage mikrofonen, for han havde lige en sidste indrømmelse, han gerne ville have lettet sit hjerte for: Cult skulle nemlig spille på en stor svensk festival dagen efter, vistnok endda som support for Judas Priest, og så gav det jo ligesom sig selv, at de lige havde måttet spare lidt på mojo’en i aften.

Il grande conclusione

At se The Cult anno 2011 er delvis hjerteskærende, delvis kammeratligt hyggeligt, men desværre kun i glimt fint showmanship (og her tænker jeg hovedsageligt på Ian Astburys sprechstallmeister-gaver). Duffy er en teknisk set glimrende guitarist, og trommeslageren John Tempesta spiller som et svin, men det er bare ikke nok, når det hele virker så dated, som tilfældet i al fald var under koncerten på Posten.

Det er umenneskeligt at klandre folk at blive ældre, men netop når det handler om rock’n'roll, så kræver jobbeskrivelsen nærmest det umulige: at forblive en vertikal i et frådende horisontalt hav. Ellers er det nærmest at håne det, der var.

Men on the upside: The Cult er et sejt, usmukt og senet stykke rockhistorie, der bare ikke vil dø. and so be it. Længere er den historie ikke. Og så får I ikke mere for den femogtyveøre.

Instructor: Raj Seymour, of Boulder, has been doing yoga for 12 years and teaching for two. he also teaches partner yoga, and yoga and outdoor wilderness programs for teens in the Boulder and Denver area. Seymour also has a background racing mountain bikes.

What is the workout? A one-hour yoga class in a room heated at 95 to 100 degrees, with humidity. Hot yoga detoxifies the body, increases flexibility, decreases risk of injury and can be more intense than other types of yoga. Participants stretch, strengthen, balance, focus and sweat out toxins, as they move from standing to the floor, for spine-strengthening and abs work.

What’s different: unlike many other hot yoga classes, this does not follow a traditional Bikram series. Seymour does different postures and also includes more core work. he also plays different, higher energy music than most yoga classes.

“I like to bring playfulness into my class,” Seymour says. “I feel like so often we’re so stressed and rushing here and there. I like to bring a sense of joy into yoga, so you can have fun while you’re doing it.”

Inspiration for class: One Boulder just began offering hot yoga Jan. 1, when the center decided to set aside a specific room for yoga. The new room is more intimate and sacred, Seymour says.

What does it cost? A one-time drop-in rate is $15. all yoga classes are included for members.

Who does it? all levels, typically 12 to 24 people. Moves can be modified to be appropriate for beginners or advanced students.

When: 5:45-6:45 p.m. Monday and Thursday and 5:15-6:15 p.m. Tuesday. One Boulder also offers Warm Yoga classes.

Level: all levels. On a 10-point scale, the class ranges from a five to eight, depending on the modifications you choose.

Format: unlike Bikram, which follows 26 specific postures each held for 30 seconds to one minute, this class is a little more flexible. still, Seymour pulls from some of the Bikram moves and evenly spaces out both sides of the body. every class is different.

A typical class starts with breathing, then standing postures. The last 20 to 25 minutes of postures are on the mat, and the class ends with shavasana. some classes also include a special kind of breathing exercise at the end.

Equipment: Yoga mat, provided.

What to wear: Comfortable yoga clothes — or tank tops and shorts (you’ll be sweating a lot). Also bring a bottle of water, full-sized towel for your mat and a smaller sweat towel. One Boulder provides towels, if needed.

Muscles worked: Full body.

One new move: none of the moves in this class were new, but what was new was my ability and flexibility. The heat really does help. Also, unlike some yoga classes, none of the moves in this class are linked, or flowing from one to the next. we held one pose, then let it go and moved on to another.

What I loved: I did this class on a cold, snowy day. The reggae music at the beginning, paired with the warm air, was like a mini vacation in the middle of a Colorado winter. I also liked the separate yoga room, which felt like a little oasis in the middle of a bustling fitness center.

I also appreciate that the fitness center validates your parking. A small gesture, but I think it makes One Boulder more accessible in downtown Boulder.

What I didn’t like: no complaints here.

How I felt after the class: Excellent. And wondering how I was able to do so many postures that I can’t normally accomplish with what felt like less effort and zero discomfort. I usually feel slight discomfort and exertion after a yoga class of this magnitude, but somehow this class brought all of the rewards with none — I mean none — of the downsides.

Not even excessive sweat. I’ve taken other hot yoga classes before that left me disgustingly dripping sweat. In this class, I sweat the right amount, without feeling uncomfortable or too slippery to hold the postures.

How I felt later: no soreness. I felt content and pleased. this is one of the best hot yoga classes I’ve done.

What is Hot Yoga?

The founder of the hot yoga is Bikram Choudhary. hence, hot yoga is commonly also known asBikram yoga. it was in the early 1970’s that this school of yoga became very popular. One can differentiate this school of yoga from the other schools of yoga in that it is practiced in a room, where the temperatures are as high as 100 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. 40% humidity is also maintained in the hall where yoga is practiced. The high temperature and humidity leads to profuse sweating and warms the body as well. it is from this fact, that this school of yoga is also referred to as hot yoga. The yoga poses are practiced for 90 minutes in every session of hot yoga. There are a total 26 yoga exercises or poses, which are practiced in this form of yoga. There are two breathing exercises, which are also a part of the practice.

The most prominent of all benefits of hot yoga is weight loss. therefore, Bikram yoga and weight lossare always spoken about. this brings us to the number of calories burned in hot yoga. The exact number of calories burned depends on a number of factors, which influence the count. other than weight loss, there are a number of benefits of Bikram yoga. it helps in making the body supple and helps in improving metabolism. since this form of yoga is practiced in real hot temperature, comes the question what to wear to hot yoga. GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – the return of winter has many people looking for ways to stay warm, and piling on the layers isn’t the only option. 11 News scaled Grand Junction, checking out the best methods in staying snug during a snowstorm and found a lot of fun ways to beat the freeze.

Try stretching into a swelter at the ultra–heated Yoga Vinyassa when mother nature unloads.

“…definitely get a kick in attendance,” says owner and instructor Tessa McInnis.

Positions are practiced in a 99 degree room, enough to melt away any memory of winter.

“We get wonderful instruction. you get a lot of stretching, a great workout, and you get hot,” says hot yoga student Barbara Parish.

If you’re not into sweating out the snow, how about something just as interesting indoors? the Museum of the West gets a flurry of walk–throughs when the weather doesn’t cooperate.

“When we have a big storm, especially on the weekend, and it’s too hard to get to Powderhorn to ski, they come down here to enjoy themselves,” says Museum of the West curator David Bailey, referring to visitors on snowy days.

A different way to bring on the heat… take a bite of Flyin’ Roosters famous hot wings.

“I ordered cajun wings and warlock wings. Warlock is a little bit more spicy…heats you up,” says Kevin Nydam, during lunch.

If you really want to catch some fire, Flyin’ Roosters’ “insanity wing” is so hot, it’s not even listed on the menu. It’s also served one wing at a time.

“It took about five minutes to subdue the pain. It wasn’t that bad though, but I couldn’t eat ten,” says Flyin’ Roosters regular John Jones, who downed an insanity wing.

For others, a huge cup–o–joe is a requirement in keeping roasted.

“Typically the people of Grand Junction like sunny days, but on the cold days, they definitely come out in numbers to warm up,” says Roasted Espresso and Subs owner Alex Mackey.

The coffee shop also serves a specialty hot chocolate with two shots of espresso and steamed hot almond milk. Customers say it’s one of many treats helping to keep Grand Junction toasty.

Being a military spouse has a lot of benefits. You have guaranteed housing, food money, job stability, health insurance … but all of that comes at the steep, steep price of having to often go it completely alone. if you get moved to a new location before your husband deploys, you can often feel really, really alone.

When you’re pregnant, especially for the first time, in a new place, and your husband deploys, it can be really, really difficult. When you add in pregnancy hormones too, dealing with a lot of things like this alone can push stress or even depression into a whole new ballpark.

Many women who’ve done it many times before, myself included, have some tried and true tips to help you get through that first deployment.

1. Prepare yourself emotionally ahead of time. especially if your husband has to do refit before deployment, it can almost feel like a horrible tease and like the whole separation is being drawn out. Try to let go of any arguments, or disagreements, and just make the best of any time you have together. Go to a favorite restaurant, cook a favorite meal, cuddle, and try to focus on the NOW instead of the deployment.

2. Set up items for emotional comfort. What got me through the first deployment was taking a shirt that smelled like my husband and putting it on a body pillow I’d cuddle up to when I slept. When it stopped smelling like him, I sprayed it with his cologne. Seems simple, but giving yourself comfort items for when you’re really down is going to help. Try to figure out something special and small you can send with your husband as well.

3. Prepare for the initial breakdown. whether you have to wait with your husband by a plane or drop him off and drive away, prepare in advance to hold tears back while driving, but to allow yourself to fall apart whenever you’re finally home. see if you can’t drop off kids with a relative to go do something fun while you go home and cry. You have to allow yourself to cry, and to get it out in a major way, but then you have to be ready and able to move on after that.

4. Hang out with people … even strangers. If you’re new to an area, definitely meet up with the other military wives. I know there are many stereotypes about how terrible they can be, and for many people, that stereotype proves very, very true. However, for many others, it doesn’t at all, and you have an automatic, built-in support system. Also check out mom groups with similar style moms. if you plan on breastfeeding, a once-a-month La Leche League meeting can help you not only prepare for the baby, but get a chance to meet new people.

5. get out of the house as often as possible. I used to write a grocery list, and then rewrite it on four pieces of paper, so I’d have it broken down enough to have a reason to leave the house every single day. consider taking some classes, like prenatal yoga … things that, unlike birthing classes, don’t necessarily focus on having your partner.

6. Remember you do have people to turn to. Ombudsmen aren’t just for technical help, but can be there just as an ear or a shoulder to cry on if you need them. take advantage of it. Also know there are counselors available at no cost, even religious if you want, if you feel you’re having a really hard time dealing. There’s no shame in admitting you struggle.

7. Communicate with your husband about everything. Even if it seems inane, he wants to hear it or read it in a letter. Write all your name ideas for the baby, the symptoms you’re dealing with, include pictures of your growing tummy if you can. Just because he’s not there doesn’t mean you can’t try to involve him. if you’re incredibly lucky, you can talk to him on Skype and he can see your belly move and grow.

8. Try to enjoy it. I know this sounds weird, but try to think about certain “freedoms” you have while your husband is gone. For example, if he hates Chinese food, get it as often as you like. if he really despises watching America’s next top Model, now is the time to rent or borrow the entire seasons and watch them all the way through. Try to find things you enjoy but he doesn’t, and take that time to do those things for yourself.

There’s many, many more resources out there, and tips for surviving deployments, especially when you’re alone. each branch and station varies, so your experience will, too. It’s hard, and often people say, “I couldn’t do it.” but when you can choose between being apart from your husband for months, or being divorced and never with him, the choice is obvious — just find a way to survive, and you’ll be okay.

The Manduka BlackMatPRO Yoga Mat is equally good as everyone sounds out it is ; much sturdier and provides more support than a unenviable mat ; sort of like the difference between really good running shoes and spongelike insolent collapses. The bag is good and Manduka BlackMatPRO Yoga Mat was a good deal on it. I wouldn't have paid full price to purchase the bag separately . I did have problems with the bag's drawing getting grabbed in the zipper initially and had to pull out my sewing kit. Sri Lankan members of parliament are to be offered yoga sessions at work, starting next month.

The aim is to eliminate their high levels of stress, the practitioners have told the BBC.

"with peace in Sri Lanka, the most stressed-out people are now the politicians," said the instructor in charge, Chamin Warnakula.

His yoga organisation has produced a leaflet headed "Yoga for MPs – for Mind, Body and Soul".

Breathing and posture exercises will "teach them discipline, good behaviour, and how to control themselves in stressful situations", he said.

"MPs get very stressed and they're not in a position to do other exercise," said his pupil, Sanjeewa Perera.

The sessions will be held at the start of parliamentary sessions and Mr Perera says they can wear the same outfit for the yoga and for the sittings.

Like some of its sister parliaments – for example, Britain's – the Sri Lankan chamber can be a very rowdy place.

In recent weeks the Speaker, Chamal Rajapaksa, has had to call MPs to order several times.

On Wednesday he suspended the proceedings and threatened to go home unless lawmakers behaved in a more professional way.

An opposition MP, Ranjan Ramanayake, accuses government MPs of constantly trying to intimidate and shout down those of this own party.

"We hope at least that by doing yoga they can learn to respect democracy and be more disciplined," he said.

It was a government member of parliament and film actress, Malani Fonseka, who had the idea for the sessions.

She told the BBC that if the lawmakers concentrated intently on what their bodies were doing, it would bring calmness to their minds, giving them a break from stress factors and helping them put things in perspective.

The organisers say a lot of parliamentarians have expressed interest in the yoga sessions.
