Hi, I am going to try a workout program in my own room, which includes a lot of jumping, running and other stuff. Since I am living in the 18th floor of an apt building, I do not want to bother my neighbors downstairs when I am excising.

All this difference is due to Yogi Harbhajan Singh, no doubt he was a great Yogi, but this is not the path of Sikhism, Guru Granth Sahib accepts existence of many things, but does not recommend to follow them. Sikhism stands on chanting the name of Lord God and singing the praises of true Guru and Lord God, what happens of Kundlini, we have not to bother.these so called Sikhs have however no fault, since they do what they have been taught. Kirya of liberation is not that they are doing, but it is meditation on name of Lord God, whether it is 'Waheguru' (for Sikhs), Ram, Khuda or Allah for other religions. Bhagat Kabeer has very well narrated His past lives, through which He had reached to the present super state.

I go to camp and we go camping for 1 day in the wild. whenever i go 2 people have to share one bag to bring our stuff in and mine always happens to break how should i pack my stuff. should i just bring a sheet and camping mat and mess kit? what should i pack i know a yoga mat to sleep on and a sheet for blanket and mess kit and clothes but any suggestions?

For clothes at least what your going to wear plus extra socks and underwear.
Then your normal gear,
Flashlight, Matches, weather gear (parka, rain gear or whatever)
Knife
If you don't have a sleeping bag, for sure make a bedroll, and I'm guessing you have a tent, if not it's cool, only really need one during the summer or during bad weather.
trash bags, (bring out what you bring in)
hygiene kit, toilet paper, is a good thing to have in there.
trail mix, or some other snack, in zip locks, if the bags are not resealable

It does not sound like you have very much experience preparing for a camping trip. you need a lot of advice. in closing I will give you a link for even better advice

Packing is a chore, I know I have five kids myself but each has their own bag, it's better that way so no one will complain about their stuff being messed with, that's your first need. second you should have a sleeping bag suitable for the weather conditions unless your camping in a RV then you will need bedding for the RV. A yoga mat is on the thin side but being a closed cell foam pad it will help insulate the cold underneath you. I would use at least a 2inch thick pad. Your mess kit is good and clothing suitable for the weather conditions is always the right thing to bring. Your own flashlight and the ten essentials in a day pack are what I would recommend next. any personal needs ect are always at the top of the list as well. any way here's the link with helpful ad vice,

MADISON, Wis. (MCT) — Faced with several hundred drum-beating, dancing and chanting demonstrators who refused to leave the Wisconsin state Capitol after the doors were closed at 4 p.m. Sunday, police decided to let the crowd spend the night and continue the protest against Gov. Scott Walker’s budget-repair bill.

“The people who are in the building will be allowed to stay,” Capitol Police Chief Charles Tubbs said Sunday night. “There will be no arrests unless people violate the law.”

It was unclear how long the protesters might be able to maintain their nightly vigil. The policy will be reviewed, Tubbs said.

The state’s Department of Administration had sought to bring a sense of business-as-usual to the Capitol by establishing regular hours.

Officials said they were trying to clean the building after nearly two weeks of continuous protests.

Tubbs announced the decision to let the protesters stay after he saw how they moved aside while work crews went about cleaning the Capitol, including mopping and polishing floors.“People are very cooperative,” Tubbs said. “I appreciate that.”

It was yet another surreal moment in the continuing saga of political chaos at the Capitol.

“we delivered a message to Governor Walker. We’ll continue to be here to kill this bill,” said Peter Rickman, 28, of Neenah, during a news conference held shortly before the doors shut.Protesters said they were prepared to be peacefully arrested to make their point that the Capitol should remain open.

The statehouse occupation began Feb. 15 when hundreds of people lined up to testify to the Joint Finance Committee, opposing the bill’s provision that would away most collective bargaining rights from state, local and school employees.

Around 3 a.m. Feb. 16, the committee stopped taking testimony but Democrats in the Legislature immediately started holding an informal listening session that went around the clock for days.

“no one had planned to stay here,” said Alex Hanna, 25, a University of Wisconsin-Madison student. “It emerged organically.”

There was an air of expectancy throughout Sunday afternoon as demonstrators gathered inside the rotunda. some came to snap photos of the numerous signs that hung on the walls of the building.

Among the signs: “please remember this is a peaceful protest.”

“Cheddar Revolution.”

“Using a recession created on Wall Street to try to bust unions on Main Street.”

“As Joan Rivers would say, ‘can we tawk?’” — a reference to union demands that Walker negotiate with them.

At a few minutes past 4 p.m., an announcement came over the sound system: “The Capitol is now closed.”

Scores of demonstrators left the building, while a few hundred made their way to the first floor. They vowed to hold their ground inside the building that has emerged as the focal point of pro-labor demonstrations.

Dena Ohlinger, 22, a University of Wisconsin-Madison student, said for the last week, she had gone to classes and worked during the day and used a yoga mat and blanket while sleeping atop the cold marble floors of the Capitol at night.

“everyone has been incredible here,” she said. “Regular social barriers have been broken down.”

Blanca Martin, 29, of Stevens Point, said the protests accomplished many things even as the budget-repair bill makes its way through the Legislature. all 14 Democratic state senators fled to Illinois to block final passage of the bill.

“We’ve had unity of purpose, unity of spirit,” Martin said. “everyone who has been here has been transformed for life.”

During the protest, demonstrators organized cleanup details, set up a system of marshals and brought in food.

“There has never been a cleaner group of protesters or a more public health-conscious group of protesters,” said Matt Kearny, 28, a research assistant at UW-Madison.

Shortly before 8 p.m., a worker on a waxing machine polished the main floor of the rotunda and dozens of demonstrators chanted: “thank you. thank you.”

Choosing a good Yoga Mat

A good mat should be weighty enough to stay in place while you are using it. It should offer you plenty of grip on its upper surface as well as gripping the floor underneath.

The material from which the mat has been made will determine its texture, stickiness, sponginess and durability. PVC, rubber and thermal plastic elastomer mats are sticky and have plenty of "give" than any yoga mat material. Cotton and jute provide grip through texture rather than stickiness, and they are firmer and less spongy.

A thicker mat will offer more cushioning and padding for seated poses, while a thinner one will offer more stability for standing poses and take up less room for transport and storage. Yoga mats usually range between 1/16 and 1/4 inch thick.

A bumpier texture can provide physical barriers to slipping, but a smoother mat can be more comfortable and texture is not always necessary on a sticky mat.

Yoga mats can come in all sorts of colors and patterns. It is even possible to find personalized mats or mats onto which useful instructions have been printed.

It can be sensible to choose a yoga mat that comes with a bag or strap for storage and transport. some people also like to buy extra cushions out of similar padded material when they are buying their yoga mat. these cushions can assist with holding difficult poses.

Modern mothers-to-be are turning to the 4,000-year-old practice of yoga to put mind over pregnancy matters as they strengthen their bodies for the road ahead.

"There’s a level of comport and presence women cultivate when they’re practicing regularly through their pregnancies, so the changes that come are not going to shake them," Elena Brower, a new York City-based yoga instructor said in an interview.

The founder of the Virayoga studio in Manhattan, Brower has worked with celebrities Gwyneth Paltrow and Christie Turlington Burns during their pregnancies. She also has developed the DVD Element: Prenatal & Postnatal Yoga.

"It’s about teaching women how to safely strengthen their abdominals," said Brower, herself the mother of a toddler. "And strengthening is complemented by learning how to stretch, so that you can be as limber as possible when that baby comes."

Yoga can also help women to get to know themselves a little better.

"you have a level of presence that allows you to ride the wave of the contraction/pain into another place. you don’t think intellectually about it. you breathe."

A study of 335 pregnant women in Bangalore, India, found that those who practiced yoga experienced shorter labor, less pregnancy-induced hypertension, and higher birth-weight babies than the control group.

More than 11 million Americans are estimated to do some form of yoga. The name derives from the Sanskrit meaning yoke or union, and the practice strives to unite movement and breath.

Brower cautions that some of the pretzel-like contortions that characterize the practice are not suitable for expectant mothers, even if they are experienced yogis.

"Don’t lie on your belly, don’t twist. you want to keep the house as big as possible for the baby," she advises. "Do inversions if it feels right."

Dr. Jacques Moritz, Director of Gynecology at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital in new York City, says yoga is a fine idea for pregnant women, as long as they inform their instructors of their condition.

"Yoga is a great relaxing exercise. It’s good for flexibility, it limbers people up," he said. "part of the process of having a baby is opening up your pelvis. Yoga is one of the good ways to do that. it strengthens your core muscles and pelvic diaphragm."

Moritz, who is featured in the 2008 documentary film The Business of Being Born, said it also helps the back pain that nearly all women get during pregnancy.

Post-natal yoga can help new mothers re-tone and strengthen the pelvic floor but Moritz warned they should wait six to eight weeks after the birth before resuming yoga.

"you can’t do something if you’re still fatigued," he explained. "most women are still breast-feeding on demand every three hours. so the last thing on their mind is exercise."

Then there’s the challenge of losing that postpartum weight. The average woman puts on about 30 pounds of it during pregnancy.

Moritz is familiar with those celebrity supermoms who seem to drop their baby weight in the time it takes the rest of us to complete a sun salutation.

"for celebrity clients it’s all about getting back in shape immediately," he said. "most of them are doing yoga and Pilates."

Not to omit an asana is important. There are exceptions, i.e. when injuries do not allow to do a pose. it can be possible that a yogi/yogini has to practice a similar exercise, because the body does not allow to practice the asana of the series, but this shall be temporarily. If we omit asanas, it might be that we refuse ourselves the experience to say one day: Wow, more is possible than I thought.

The inner game of Ashtanga yoga as described in my last post is more important than to add asanas. Correct breathing, lengthening the body when inhaling, going into the pose when exhaling, engaging muscles and bandhas, gazing at a point is what makes Ashtanga to Ashtanga. This is what helps performing the asanas and vinyasas.

Primary:
- Before starting with the sun salutations I jump against the wall from downward dog with bent legs. I stretch them then so that I’m in handstand. This is new, but one of my focus is the vinyasa and this helps me to jump forward, it gives me trust that I don’t fall over when I jump.

- I do full vinyasa nowadays at home and at Mysore class. Before my trip to India to THE shala in Gokulam I was not able to do vinyasas between sides. I was too weak. The practice is work in progress. I got stronger, I know I need more strength for certain asanas.

- In Mysore classes I get help for kurmasana and supta kurmasana. It’s classic that yogis/yoginis get adjumstments here. when I’m at home, I add eka pada sirsasana, the second series asana (leg behind the head) and yoga nidra (both legs behind the head while lying on the back).These leg/legs behind the head asanas  are important asanas, that’s why I give it some more attention. Supta kurmasana needs improvement, too.

- Upavishta konasana: I hold this asanas longer than 5 breaths. In former times asanas were held 8 breaths. My chin does not touch the floor. I want to keep the back straight. sometimes I repeat this asana, then I use my Indonasian chest to pull me forward.

- after supta hasta padangusthasana I exercise hanumanasana, this forward split pose, when I practice at home (not in Mysore classes). I use a block under my body. This surely interrupts the flow.

- Urdhva dhanurasana: I use a strap at home. I drop back against the wall. I arch back as much as possible. so I do a bit more here than simply going into the pose for 3 times.

In Mysore classes I don’t use any props when I practice primary. I see that others do. We are all learning. The goal remains to stick to the series as close as possible!!!

When I practice second series, I need some more modifications and more adjustments. The goal is to get closer and closer to the series. They are very nice, I don’t feel like changing them. If a yogi/yogini likes to add some asana if it fits, why not. The primary has 20 asanas in the middle part, this is enough for me. I rather think to add pranayama and meditation at the end. but so far savasana is my last post.

Each practice is new and different.

SIX years ago Liam Phillips was fighting for his life.

the ex-Mackay resident and teacher was diagnosed with an incurable disease and suffered for three years, almost losing the battle three times.

However, Liam miraculously pulled through and now is an author of several books including Curing the Incurable, as well as being a motivational speaker who shares his miraculous story with others.

Liam has been recently touring the US and New Zealand, talking about his books and life experience, and will soon be in Mackay for a free public talk based around his book, Curing the Incurable.

“I will be returning to Mackay for one night on November 30 to host a free talk about my story and give people the opportunity to use some of the techniques that helped me change the disease and change my life and the lives of thousands of others,” Liam said.

Liam’s story is an amazing chronicle of change – from terminal disease to a life of joy he shares with others who may be struggling.

“Since I left Mackay a decade ago I have had an amazing time seeking consciousness from living in India to studying Kriya Yoga and meeting people such as John De Roiter, Gary Douglas and Brandon Bays, to name a few,” he said.

“during that time I had a disease that almost put me six foot under several times. at one point I had to choose death or life. In that choice I came across the tools of access and my body started to heal as a by-product of the consciousness I was willing to receive.”

the only charge is a donation and Liam’s book is $25. the talk will go for about an hour and Liam is available for private talks for $15. the talk will be held at the Mackay Masonic Centre, 57 Wood Street, Tuesday, November 30, at 7pm.

Where do I start? how do I start? I can't even touch my toes. If I stand on one foot for longer than .0003 milliseconds I fall over.

Back injuries prevent me from doing a lot of the poses. I can't even do one push up. I'm 300 pounds overweight and suffer a lot of back and joint pain.

I can't even do the child's pose properly.

But I want to do yoga, and I'm so confused about the information out there.

Do I *really* need a mat? Do I *really* need those yoga blocks, and do I *really* need a yoga strap?

I'm not flexible or fit enough take a class. Besides- I feel stupid not being able to do half the stuff the rest of the class can. last time I even tried to attempt downward facing dog I had a back cramp for a almost a week!

But like I said, I really want to do yoga, and start. But I'm overwhelmed with all the info out there and am clueless about where to start.

I've had people tell me I need yoga pants and a yoga top before I start yoga, but HA! No store sells them in my size-I need at least a 6x, and the stores only sell yoga pants/shirts up to a Large. 1 x if I'm lucky.

And straps, mats and blocks!!! I've been told I need them, and been told I don't. my head is spinning. Do I start off with a book? Do I start off with a video?

Do I need a mat, a block and/or a strap? will it help? will it not help? and what are some good books and videos for someone who's wanting to do yoga but is fat, overweight and has chronic pain issues that can't even touch their knees, much less their toes?

T-shirts spread simple messages of goodness

BY AMY ROSEN Staff Writer While most people may view Tshirts as mere articles of clothing, three young women from Monmouth County, along with their male mentor and business partner, see the shirts as canvases on which they can send positive messages that inspire people to make a difference in the world.

Sarah Miller, Farrah Maliavsky and Charlotte DeStefano (l-r) are spreading positive messages through their line of organic T-shirts called IDtees. They have taken a grass-roots and personal approach to marketing their products in shops throughout New Jersey. Through the use of creative images and simple text, Farrah Maliavsky, 26, of Manalapan, Charlotte DeStefano, 24, of Colts Neck, and Sarah Miller, 27, of Farmingdale, hope to bring awareness and ultimately positive changes one shirt at a time with IDtees (pronounced I.D. tees).

The women are taking what was initially the vision of the company’s CEO and creative guru, Bill Jemas, the former president of Marvel Comics, hitting the pavement and spreading the good word, literally.

With wars, violence, economic instability and negativity enveloping the globe, the goal of the IDtees team, which is based in Princeton Junction, Mercer County, is to remind people to focus on positive change.

Jemas, who now owns 360 Intellectual Equity, which focuses on licensing and intellectual property development, recruited graphic designer Maliavsky in 2008 to help him bring his vision of positive change to fruition.

Maliavsky, a Manalapan High School and Rutgers University graduate who is passionate about world peace and saving the environment, left her marketing job at a New York City law firm to help create the designs to spread the message.

“Fashion is an everyday means of expressing oneself, so why not use that canvas as a tool for the greater good?” said Maliavsky.

“not to mention we were sick of seeing T-shirts stamped with skulls, guns and other negative messages flooding the market, and we had a feeling other people were, too,” added Jemas.

Miller came on board next to develop the business end of the company. a graduate of Freehold High School and George Washington University, she had left her accounting job with a movie company in Hollywood to come back to her family in New Jersey.

Jemas and Maliavsky saw her business experience as an asset to their fledgling company.

They began marketing the T-shirts on the Internet, building a peace blog and sending out weekly newsletters, but met with frustration when they found the online T-shirt world to be not only saturated with college humor and offensive, mocking parodies, but overly competitive and difficult to negotiate. Their positive product needed a marketing boost.

When DeStefano, a graduate of Colts Neck High School and New York Univer- sity, came on board straight from working as a field organizer on Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, she encouraged the team to hit the streets, tell their story and engage the community to help spread the word.

According to the women, the new approach, implemented this summer, has been successful so far. They have visited local stores and found that people were receptive when they saw the T-shirts firsthand, met them personally and heard the motive behind their product.

As a result of the women’s nonstop efforts, IDtees can currently be purchased in a variety of stores throughout New Jersey, including boutiques that cater to women, men and children, skate and surf shops, and even a yoga shop.

Locally, IDtees can be purchased at Lola’s, Route 9, Manalapan, and Yoga Basin, 603 Mattison Ave., Asbury Park.

Other shops that carry IDtees are in Princeton, Spring Lake, Point Pleasant, Ocean Grove, Manasquan, Millburn and Haddonfield, with more on the way.

The IDtees designs feature simple designs and a verb.

“It’s a call to action,” said DeStefano.

“a verb telling you to get involved and do something, not just talk about it,” Maliavsky added.

One popular design features a graphic of a bicycle accompanied by the word “simplify.” Other shirts feature a peace sign made out of the words for peace in many languages and the message: “diversity.”

There is another peace symbol in the barrel of what could be interpreted as a smoking gun that says “cease” and a multitude of other messages on shirts that include “emancipate,” “harmonize” and “dehydrate.”

One political message shows the word “party” with the donkey and elephant symbols for the Democratic and Republican parties embracing and dancing together.

New designs are always being added to reflect world problems.

The women said they are finding that the IDtees appeal to all ages. one design features a positive take on the skull and crossbones many youngsters wear, but with a smiley face atop crossbones and the message “smile anyway.”

Maliavsky and DeStefano relayed the story of a 90-year-old woman in a wheelchair falling in love with their designs and purchasing some shirts for herself, while teenagers admired their designs as well.

“It’s good to see there are socially aware people in every generation,” said DeStefano.

The women have just released a baby line with mini versions of their “undanger” line that features images of elephants, turtles and dolphins. there are also hearts made of flowers that say “grow,” among many others.

The IDtees team will be at the Red Bank Street Fair on Sept. 12, and at the Yoga Festival By the Sea in Asbury Park on Sept. 18- 19. a percentage of the proceeds from the Sept. 18-19 event will support a yoga curriculumfor pupils in the Asbury Park schools.
